Virginia Open Teaching, Chod Empowerment

With Pema Khandro

October 4, 2019

Open Teaching, Chod Empowerment:

This is the first night of the Friday and Saturday Retreat, The Laughter of the Dakinis Chod, and will include a teaching and rLung (oral transmission) for the Laughter of the Dakinis Chod practice, along with a short introduction and a group practice. The rLung is a traditional initiation which is necessary to begin this practice. Saturday will focus on practice and a short session of instructions or study of the text.

Saturday’s Laughter of the Dakinis Chod Retreat:

A day long meditation retreat focused on the practice of the Laughter of the Dakinis, a dynamic Tibetan Buddhist meditation cycle using chanting, instrumentation and visualization. This day and a half intensive will include the initiation into the practice followed by three Chod sessions and a short study of two key passages in the liturgy. This retreat is practice-focused rather than study-focused, but there will be a session to go over aspects of the text and visualization. The full practices requires more extensive study than can be done in one day, however, newcomers are welcome and will be offered instruction on the instruments in a break out group for new students.

What to Bring

This retreat will use Vajrayana instruments, so please bring chod drum and bell with you. If you don’t have one, we will have a limited supply of Chod drums for sale.
